Origin
Green Land Coffee Plantation was founded in 1999 and is located in Pyin Oo Lwin, a hill town famous for its botanical gardens and examples of colonial architecture. The plantation is in the east of Myanmar and forms part of the Indo-Malayan mountains. It started out with just 30 acres but has rapidly expanded to over 580,000 coffee trees grown on 450 acres. The main variety grown is Catimor (originally from Costa Rica), but they are also conducting experiments with Yellow Bourbon, Caturra and Catuai too.
Once picked, the beans are separated from the cherries and naturally sun-dried, then sorted by size and hand-graded to remove the impurities and keep quality high. Green Land have both a wet and dry mill on the farm, but a lot of the dry milling is also handled by the exporter.
